# Problem on coding table in latex

I am wondering if you can help me on coding a table using LaTeX. I have difficulty in doing it.

The assignment process for graduated students at the beginning of each semester is an

important process for all academic programs at Benghazi University. This paper presents a model that includes a number of constraints relating to the minimum and maximum number of students in each academic program and the prerequisites and corequisites for each project in each academic program. The objective is to determine a way to assign students to projects according to their preferences. A linear grade function that represents the preferences of each student is introduced to be maximized. A 0-1 integer programming formulation is proposed that was implemented using data from the 2008 fall and 2009 spring semesters in the Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing Systems Department at the University of Benghazi in Benghazi, Libya. The assignment solutions were obtained using different preference criterions and were then compared with the solutions previously obtained using a manual system.\\

I need code that can generate the same table as in the figure.

welcome to tex.sx, you can use the image button to upload the image but remove the ! from the generated markup. That will make a link, then someone with edit rights will add the ! back later. Thanks for the example code but in future please always post complete documents from \documentclass to \end{document} which shows the packages loaded and (important here) the page and font sizes being used. –  David Carlisle Apr 9 '13 at 9:04

First of all I've added the caption package for two things: to add the option to center the caption and to use the \captionof command which allows to create a caption outside a float.

I then renamed the footnote from number to small letters as it is on your picture.

In order to have the footnotes just after the table and note at the end of the page, a trick is to use a minipage environment to surround the table. The footnotes will be displayed at the end of the minipage environment.

I played around with the multirow and multicolumn functions to get an aspect as close as possible to your picture. The hardest was to fit 2 lines in 3. The trick here is to use the solution mentionned here.

There is still some work to fill the table but the mostly the layout part is done.
