Every time I compile a XeTeX file, the error/warning log always includes these warnings:

xetex> ) [1] ("D:\Projects\Test\test.aux")Fontconfig warning: no <cachedir> elements found. Check configuration.
xetex> Fontconfig warning: adding <cachedir>C:\Users\Peter\AppData\Local\MiKTeX\2.9\fontconfig\cache</cachedir>
xetex> Fontconfig warning: adding <cachedir>~/.fontconfig</cachedir>
xetex> Fontconfig warning: no <cachedir> elements found. Check configuration.
xetex> Fontconfig warning: adding <cachedir>C:\Users\Peter\AppData\Local\MiKTeX\2.9\fontconfig\cache</cachedir>
xetex> Fontconfig warning: adding <cachedir>~/.fontconfig</cachedir>

Is this something I should be concerned about? I haven't had any trouble compiling, except that sometimes it takes longer than I would like. How can I get rid of these warnings?

I suggest you report this to MiKTeX maintainer, looks like a misconfiguration issue. –  Khaled Hosny Sep 8 '13 at 15:30

In my current miktex 2.9 fonts.conf (in the userConfig-root in fontconfig/config) contains a cachedir element. And the directory it points to contains cache data. I also never say this warning until now, so I think it is some local problem. Perhaps fonts.conf was changed somehow, or there is another fonts.conf somewhere. –  Ulrike Fischer Sep 8 '13 at 17:08
