what are the best latex templates you have found so far for books?

Why are people keep calling classes templates? And packages styles files for that matter? The latter most likely comes from LaTeX2 and the .sty ending. – Martin Scharrer Mar 31 '11 at 10:13

@Martin: the former is a crossover from MS Word usage, I'd suspect. More generally, template is used for any file that has structure built-in and only needs to have content added. – Matthew Leingang Mar 31 '11 at 11:49
