I have TeX Live 2012/MacPorts 2012_5 installed on my Mac using mac port, and I'd like to install packages (pgfplots) for it.

How can I install packages for Mac Port TeX?

If you have TeXLive (MacTeX, right?) on your system, you should be able to use tlmgr to install packages. In a normal install of MacTeX, lots and lots of packages should have been installed along with the executables. Note that you won't be able to update any packages as TeXLive2012 has been "frozen" since last spring. Is there a reason for you not downloading and installing MacTeX2013? – Mico Dec 18 '13 at 19:09
The easy way would be updating to TeX live 2013. If you insist on using MacPorts: sudo port -v selfupdate should upgrade your installation to version 2.2.1, which includes TeX live 2013. Anyway, I would recommend using the official TeX live distribution and homebrew instead of MacPorts. – DG' Dec 18 '13 at 19:18
