I updated to openSUSE 13.1 and TeX Live got updated. Now it does not work. I have the version 2013.20130620-11.3.2 and thousands of TeX Live packages installed.

Running an old file for testing, (correctly functioning before update) I get the following response:

pdflatex Dante This is pdfTeX, Version 3.1415926-2.5-1.40.14 (TeX Live 2013/TeX Live for SUSE Linux) restricted \write18 enabled.

kpathsea: Running mktexfmt pdflatex.fmt /usr/bin/mktexfmt: line 400: /usr/lib/texmf/texconfig/tcfmgr: No such file or directory fmtutil: config file `fmtutil.cnf' not found.

I can't find the format file pdflatex.fmt!

What went wrong?

Are we talking about TeX Live installed using the openSUSE in both cases? If so, it's really an openSUSE rather than a TeX issue. – Joseph Wright Jan 18 '14 at 19:27
That definitely looks like an openSUSE issue to do with the updating process. You could try uninstalling TeX Live and then reinstalling it. – cfr Jan 18 '14 at 22:42
