I hope someone can help me with the following problem. When I try and compile a file with a reference in it (using Texmaker), I get the error message Undefined control sequence. I subsequently went into my BibTeX file and corrected the error which was a missing bracket. However when I then try and compile the file (latex, bibtex, latex, latex) or quick build in Texmaker the same error message comes up.

The weird part is that even when I change the reference to something else, the same error message specific to this reference comes up.

What has gone wrong? I think it might be related to the natbib package as I have had problems with it before.

A brief example can be provided should someone need it.

Did you erase the .aux file? This should be done when mysterious errors such as this one pop up. – egreg Oct 27 '11 at 13:09

"Brief examples" are extremely useful in trying to track down this sort of thing. – Andrew Stacey Oct 27 '11 at 13:12

Welcome to TeX.sx! Please add a minimal working example (MWE) that illustrates your problem. – Stephen Oct 27 '11 at 17:54
Since there's no further information, the question will be closed. Laura, if you add the brief example, as you said, we can reopen this question. – Stefan Kottwitz Nov 26 '11 at 14:18
