TeX - LaTeX Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for users of TeX, LaTeX, ConTeXt, and related typesetting systems. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm a beginner in LaTeX typesetting, and I'm learning with the help of Gummi's live preview editor, installed on Windows 7. As suggested by the developers I am using TeX Live, not MiKTeX, as my Latex distribution. I would like to ask other Gummi users (especially those familiar with the Windows version) what bugs they are experiencing, more specifically, if they are getting the following two problems:

  1. When erasing part of a text the compiler seems to have problems catching up, especially if erasing fast (and even when erasing one character at a time, sometimes the last character erased is still displayed after compiling). Is this a Windows-specific bug or does Gummi do this also in the Linux versions? I had also tried Bakoma TeX and the live compiler didn't have these problems.

  2. The software freezes often, for example when I copy-paste a lot.

Any suggestions on how to fix these problems without extensive programming knowledge are much appreciated. Thank you for your help.

This is better addressed directly to the developers. You should report a bug to give them a chance for a fix. – Thorsten Donig Jan 24 '12 at 18:29
Ok thanks, I was planning on doing this shortly. I was mainly interested in knowing whether these are really bugs (especially the first), or whether they can be fixed by just tweaking the settings in some way. – Emilio Ferrucci Jan 24 '12 at 18:34
At least the second point seems to be a bug. The first might be fixed by choosing other settings for the preview. But you can always browse the list of reported bugs to find out if similar behaviour has already occurred. – Thorsten Donig Jan 24 '12 at 18:41
Hmm ok... Gummi is the only free editor which provides real time compilation, and Windows is the most widely used os in the world...so I don't really see how the question is "too localized". As suggested, I was planning on notifying the developer about the bugs, as mine are not on the list of already reported ones. I thought that asking on stackexchange would be a good idea, since someone with experience might very well have encountered problems like these before, and know how to deal with them. I guess it wasn't. – Emilio Ferrucci Jan 24 '12 at 21:20
But you asked for fixes to a software that only is a front-end for LaTeX. Your question is not about LaTeX itself. – Thorsten Donig Jan 27 '12 at 18:13
