I have a thesis template with external chapters, preamble, etc. When I compile the main file I get the error si.sty file not found. I really don't understand where it is? What shall I do? If I am not wrong I understand that si.sty is a package file I might not have. If so, where can I get it and where to put it?

I am beginner of LaTex. I use Windows XP and Tex Maker.

Update: I think I did something wrong the template I asked about and ruined it. So, I changed this template to another one. Problem solved. I am reading LaTeX literature, next time will ask my questions properly.

Welcome to TeX.SX! There is no si.sty that I know of. There are SIstyle and SIunits, but the preferred package nowadays for printing units is siunitx. – egreg Apr 20 '12 at 15:18

The very first public release of siunitx, which was purely for beta testing, was called si. That was some years ago now: you must have a very unusual template! Could you post a link? – Joseph Wright Apr 20 '12 at 15:39

combining the comments above, have a look in your main file for a line that says, \usepackage{si} and change it to, \usepackage{siunitx}. if that doesn't work, then update your distibution- if you're using MikTeX then it has a very nice GUI – cmhughes Apr 20 '12 at 16:54
Welcome to TeX.sx! Usually, we don't put a greeting or a "thank you" in our posts. While this might seem strange at first, it is not a sign of lack of politeness, but rather part of our trying to keep everything very concise. Upvoting is the preferred way here to say "thank you" to users who helped you. – Stephen Apr 20 '12 at 18:10
I changed for \usepackage{siunitx} as you recommend but it doesn't work. And I don't understand: "update your distribution". I use TexMaker. – Sasha Apr 21 '12 at 4:37
