I compile and then a message appears telling me that "PDF is damaged or has a format not compatible". What can I do?

Welcome to TeX.SE. Does this problem happen on a very basic file? Also, if you are on Windows, check that the PDF file is not already opened, as I have noticed problems related to this on Windows (not on Mac). – Peter Grill May 3 '12 at 15:34
I'm on a MACbookpro...and it's the 1st time i use texworks and apparently not doing it well..idk what's going on? – Jtaty May 3 '12 at 15:43

Please, edit your question (there is a small "edit" sign below the question text) and add an example of a document you try to compile. Or try the following minimal document: \documentclass{article}\begin{document}Hello World!\end{document} – tohecz May 3 '12 at 15:51
Are you able to compile the minimal document provided by @tohecz? Are you compiling with pdfLaTeX? Where do you see this error message? You could also try a different file name -- in case there is a problem with the hard disk where your current file resides? – Peter Grill May 3 '12 at 16:05
With no more information, I'm afraid this is 'Not A Real Question' – Joseph Wright May 6 '12 at 10:23
