I generate latex from sphinx, and I use UFT8, so I stick to xelatex.

Code listings are given in the Verbatim environment. And long lines get out of the page.

The only way I found to keep long lines withing the page -- is to load fancevrb package. It modifies Verbatim so that code stays withing the page (words gets wrapped). But now it won't render syntax highlighting -- even after I give it commandchars:

Some docs suggested that I should add \fvset{commandchars=\\\{\}} -- I did but doesn't solve the problem.

Please find attacked the full minimal example: sty and cls generated by sphinx, and MWE of tex. Basically it works with xelatex.

fancybox and fancyvrb fight each other in defining Verbatim; load only the latter and it works. – egreg Aug 22 '12 at 19:34
I've commented the fancybox line in sphinx.sty - after that the code is highlighted, but it gets out of the paper. I tried then to wrap it with listings: if I put Verbatim inside lstlisting (I also set \lstset{breaklines=true}) - I get no interpretation of highlighting code, and if I put lstlisting inside Verbatim - I get at error. So I guess the nearest solution is to provide commandchars to listings. I searched the listing docs -- but it doesn't have it. Do You think something can be done about all that? – Adobe Aug 23 '12 at 11:34
lstlisting works quite differently from Verbatim: you only supply the language. You can try also minted – egreg Aug 23 '12 at 13:01
minted doesn't support this (link). It looks like listing is the only way to wrap the lines. Do You think it is possible to make listings interpret the coloring? – Adobe Aug 23 '12 at 15:45
