I'm having a heck of a time installing the listings package under Windows 7, using MiKTeX 2.9.

Pretty much all the install instructions I've seen relate to Linux. I've tried to adapt them to Windows 7 but with no luck. Right now in TexMaker I get,

! Package Listings Error: Couldn't load requested aspect.
See the Listings package documentation for explanation.
Type H <return> for immediate help....
\lst@RequireAspects\lst@loadaspects

when I try to compile.

Could anyone give me some pointers?

I've been sourcing the install from these links,

http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/listings/ and http://kar2905.wordpress.com/2010/03/23/installing-listings-package-for-latex/

With MikTeX, why don't you use the package browser in Start->Program Files->MikTeX->Maintanance? – Martin H Aug 24 '12 at 9:04

Well if the package listings gives you error messages then it is at least partially installed. Perhaps you are making some other error. Make a minimal example that demonstrates your problem. – Ulrike Fischer Aug 24 '12 at 9:22
As you can tell, I'm new to MiKTeX...!!! I didn't even know it had a package installer!! Thank you... I installed via that and it works great now. Thanks again! – Rob D Aug 24 '12 at 10:09

Based on the last comment, 'too localized'? – Joseph Wright Aug 24 '12 at 11:12
