Hi i am using an old vesion of WinEdt (5.4) and MikTeX 2.5 (I am not able to update an y cause its a company computer, very restricted!). Anyway, I am swedish and want to write with swedish letters so I use:

 \usepackage[swedish]{babel}
 \usepackage[utf8]{inputenc}
 \usepackage[T1]{fontenc}

I click on TeXify and Yap starts rendering the dvips file. But i get an error (and weird output) and it halts on rendfer method PKfont otherwise it use to ask me to swirtch to dvips

\textbf{Beskriv dig själv, vem är du egentligen?}\\
Jag är uppvuxen i Halmstad och flyttade till Malmö 2001.

becomes

Beskriv dig sj, vem u egentligen?
Jag ppvuxen i Halmstad och flyttade till Malm 2001.

And clicking "document properties" in yap tells me that "ecrm1095" and "ecbx1095" could not be loaded, and it mentions "cmsy10" but the window too small to see what it says is the problem with that file. But switching to dvips render method "document properties" doesnt say that the files are not loaded, but they are still there. An the text doent become any more right.

What should I do?

A new miktex 2.9. can be installed in a restricted user account. So if you have the place, a not to old windows and are allowed to install applications the best is probably to upgrade. If not you should compile on the command line with pdflatex (!) a small (!) "Hello World"-latex file with \usepackage[T1]{fontenc} in it to get some better messages about the fonts. Btw: I don't think that winedt 5.4. could already handle utf8. Don't you get errors in the log? – Ulrike Fischer Sep 14 '12 at 9:03
As I said I cant install anything, servicedesk handlas all installations and a boss needs to verify, and the program has to be repacked, soo even if the program is freware, the process will cost thousands of kronor which will not be granted! Anyway I have found one solution myself! I just use \usepackage[latin1]{inputenc} instead which is used by windows ([utf8] apparently for ubuntu) – Anders Kallenberg Sep 14 '12 at 9:14
Use \usepackage[ansinew]{inputenc}. That's better for windows. And the option doesn't depend on the OS but on the encoding of the file itself. Your old winedt can only save files as ansinew. In newer winedt you could choose between ansinew and utf8. Btw: You should learn to check the log-file. There must have been a lots of errors due to the wrong inputenc option. – Ulrike Fischer Sep 14 '12 at 9:26
Ok, I will try the log file hate em...Thanks for the advice! – Anders Kallenberg Sep 14 '12 at 9:51
Well I have some doubts that LaTeX is really the right tool for you. You have an outdated TeX-system, not much knowledge (e.g. about file encodings) and now on top also a reluctance to use the messages of your latex. – Ulrike Fischer Sep 14 '12 at 11:23
