I am using the command \addbibfile for the bibliography instead of \bibliography.

But now, I cannot use \bibliographystyle because TeX does not recognize the command. What do I have to do to choose the bibliography style now?

@Monica Your question suggests you are using biblatex (which defines \addbibresource). Is that the case? If so, you do not use 'traditional' styles at all: see What to do to switch to biblatex? and biblatex for idiots for some hints. – Joseph Wright Sep 26 '12 at 16:26
