I'm currently writing for the first time a paper in LyX and I'm having some trouble with it:

The document class I chose is "article (AMS)" . When I'm trying to add a Bibliography, I chose "Bibliography" from the options on the left side, and it indeed gave me "References" as title. LyX then tells me to write a key and label for the reference I want. But I only want to write something inside the brackets. Like: " [Jer] " or something. Even pressing enter inside the "key" doesn't work... Can someone help me?

Hope I made my question clear enough...

OK. Thanks. I edit my question – joshua Nov 10 '12 at 15:34
I don't understand. The key is just for being able to cite it. What do you mean by "I only want to write something inside the brackets" ? What do you mean by "doesn't work" ? Please give an example of the output that you would like. – scottkosty Nov 10 '12 at 16:30
Also, are you sure you don't want to use a bib file? In LyX go to Insert > List/TOC > BibTeX Bibliography... – scottkosty Nov 10 '12 at 16:31
Thanks ! I indeed tried using Jabref and it worked like magic! – joshua Nov 10 '12 at 18:00
Glad it worked out. Jabref is good software. – scottkosty Nov 11 '12 at 1:23
