I was about to post this question, but could finally solve it, so... just in case anyone has this problem, here's what i did. So i wanted to go from the pdf to tex code with the "jump to source" option when i right click. But this option was missing, and "no synctex data available" showed when i compiled. It turns out that my files were in a subfolder of a folder which i had renamed a few days ago. This renaming had a spanish accent in it (á), and when i renamed this folder again (without the á this time), texworks started to work normally again. I don't know if I should have posted this, but it took me quite a while to figure out what was happening and my google searches weren't that helpful.

SyncTeX does depend on directory names: there have also been issues with accents in the past. What version of TeXworks doe you have, and what version of pdfTeX did you use to create the file? – Joseph Wright Dec 24 '12 at 16:38
I have Texworks version 0.3 (r.514) (MiKTeX 2.8), and Windows 7. – Sophie Dec 24 '12 at 16:53
Your TeXworks is quite out-of-date. I'd be very tempted to use MiKTeX 2.9's version. Also, as it stands this is not really a question. – Joseph Wright Dec 24 '12 at 16:57
I didn't know about the pdftex version, but i typed it in the windows search and a black window says "this is pdftex, version 3.1415926-1.40.10 <Miktex 2.8> – Sophie Dec 24 '12 at 16:57
I realized it wasn't a question so it felt weird posting it.. but thanks for the advice, i'll try to update (i guess i first need to uninstall the current version, right?) – Sophie Dec 24 '12 at 17:00
