# How to avoid numbering of Appendix?

I have only one appendix in my report. But it appears in the table of contents and title page as Appendix A. How can I change it to APPENDIX?

You can use `\chapter*{Appendix}`. – Sigur Dec 28 '12 at 12:42
And add `\addcontentsline{toc}{chapter}{\appendixname}` to get appendix entry in `TOC` – Harish Kumar Dec 28 '12 at 12:46
thank you.....it worked – Vidhya Dec 28 '12 at 12:54
remember `\phantomsection` before `\addcontentsline` if you are using `hyperref` – daleif Dec 28 '12 at 13:00
@Sigur: Would you mind adding an answer just for the record? – Harish Kumar Dec 28 '12 at 13:09

``````\chapter*{\appendixname}\addcontentsline{toc}{chapter}{\appendixname}
Another (maybe devious) trick is to say `\backmatter\chapter{\appendixname}`, if the class supports `\backmatter` (`book`, `scrbook`, `memoir` and others). – egreg Dec 28 '12 at 16:18
