I am getting an error message whenever I am installing miktex. The error message reads:

The operation could not be completed for the following reason:
The operation failed for some reason.
Details: C:\Program Files\miktex 2.9\miktex/bin/x64\initexmf.exe

I am using Windows 8 Pro x64 with media center. Previously, I was installing miktex for all users. This time I was installing miktex for only my user account which resulted in the above error message. I ran the setup with administrator privileges. Any suggestions?

I had the same error message. It shouldn't matter that much. If it doesn't work, try to refresh the FNDB in the settings. – Juri Robl Feb 26 at 8:20

If you install miktex "only for a user" it is often better not to use admin privileges but to install it with the normal user rights in a folder outside program files where this user has the right to write. It can give a lot of headaches if the user hasn't by default the rights needed for maintainance and installation. Beside this Juri is right: The error message often indicates a small problem at the end, e.g. with fc-cache. Test the installation. – Ulrike Fischer Feb 26 at 8:31

The error comes from initexmf.exe, so it is actually not the installation itself, but presumable the trial of FNDB updating. This is started with user permissions, not with administrator rights. It could be a problem of UAC. So, what already Ulrike wrote, an installation outside of Program Files would be very likely much better. – Speravir Feb 26 at 18:24
what you guys suggest is that I install miktex only for my user and select a place like (ex. desktop) for miktex installion right ? – user5976 Feb 27 at 8:46
