{amsart} is a document class provided by AMS, roughly equivalent to `article`, but conforming to the AMS journal style.

amsart uses the same input tagging scheme as article, with some differences in the organization of title, author, and other top matter. In addition, it incorporates the amsthm conventions, amsmath and amsfonts (extra symbols and Euler alphabets).

An article prepared with the unmodified \documentclass{article} can have the class replaced by amsart with minimal file changes to produce an article in the AMS journal style.
