The Latin Modern fonts are created by GUST, and are based on the computer-modern fonts created by D. Knuth, and released to the public domain by AMS. Latin Modern fonts contain many additional glyphs, support math fonts, and come in a variety of encodings. The fonts are available in Type 1 and OpenType format, so they can be used with any TeX engine. Latin Modern can be used via the lm package with \usepackage{lmodern}, while the math support for the OpenType format is provided by the lm-math package.
