Problems with Preview-ing ps and ps2pdf output on OS X Welcome to TeX.sx! I edited your post to display the pictures inline. Please add a minimal working example (MWE). Otherwise it's pretty tough to troubleshoot. |

Why is it necessary to compile 4 times when using bibliography? No harm done, I guess. Take a look at doncherry's remark concerning latexmk, though. It takes care of all the work for you and is actually already implemented in Texmaker. |

Why is it necessary to compile 4 times when using bibliography? User tohecz summed it up nicely in his reply. |

Tikz changes included graphics Did you make sure that it's not just a display-issue of the PDF-reader? Some behave pretty badly with line-width. Try zooming in or printing the file to verify this. Otherwise, it's pretty hard to figure out without the actual file. I don't get different results with a random .pdf. |

Remove hyphen from word spanning two lines in text copied from a pdf file Sounds like putting toothpaste back in the tube. One possibility: If you could make TeX use a different character for hyphenation-hyphens than for non-hyphenation-hyphens, you could run a search&replace on the hyphenation-hyphens afterwards. |

Use macro/newcommand for attributes @cherrung: That's correct. I didn't really check for that. I edited the answer to offer you an actual fix. |

\cite ouputs a (?) at the pdf Depending on your editor, you might already have latexmk included, which will take care of all necessary compilation steps. |

Applying TikZ options stored in a file @Jake: True. I'll put the (minimally) adjusted MWE into an answer, because of the nicer formatting. |
