I am pretty sure, that the path to the perl installation has changed due to upgrade of perl from 5.14.1 to 5.14.2. Perl is now under:/usr/local/lib/perl/5.14.2/ Sadly I do not have any idea where biber does get the path from...

The path /usr/local/perl/lib/ does not exist at all. It looks like something changed in the perl installation on debian...

Sadly rolling back does not change anything. I guess it is related to my system update and not the new biber version =-(

I cannot find libz in the package manager. I installed everything that looks alike, such as lib32z1 without any change

Thanks a lot. I called myself an idiot because I didn't make a backup. That is great news. As soon as I am back home I'll do that and freeze the system until submission of the thesis (I hoped to get an improved version of biblatex-chicago)

Yes it does. That was the solution I have been referring to. And it is the reason why I opened the question since it doesn't work =-(

@MikeRenfro Just to let you know: I ran at trouble with that solution in a bigger document since the extract package eats up another to writes.

@MikeRenfro: I have some trouble with your solution. Can you give me a hint what is wrong? '%% Using options: active,generate=synopsis,extract-env={synopsis},extract-cmd={section},extract-cm‌dline={tableofcontents}' '%% \documentclass[b5paper,11pt,DIV=calc,BCOR=8mm,parskip=false,hidelinks]{scrbook}' '\newenvironment{synopsis}{}{}' '\begin{document}' '\tableofcontents' '\section[Heading 1]{\Sectionformat {Heading 1}{1}}'

comment AUCTeX XeLaTeX preview fails: fontspec cannot-use-pdftex error
OK, looks like I have ot understand a little bit more about what happens within preview. Does 'xelatex -no-pdf' create the preview images during a normal run? Or does the preview run only use the dvi file? Are the preview images only created during the 'C-c C-p'? Then 'xelatex -no-pdf' shouldn't help really, right?

Thanks, I mixed up grouping and environment. So looks like there is something left to do for me when I finished my thesis ;-) Shouldn't be to much work to change the comment package (said by somebody who is even struggling writing a 10 lines macro ;-)
