comment Adjust vertical spacing between minitoc title and contents
Really appreciate your help, but @touhami's solution using \mtcsetfeature works like a charm, so I have made that the accepted answer.

Your last solution using \mtcsetfeature works perfectly, thanks! (Didn't need to try the other solutions...)

comment Adjust vertical spacing between minitoc title and contents
Well I'm writing a thesis with 4 chapters in it, but yes I guess I only need it for this one document. I've tried redefining \mtctitle to include a line break and even some \vspace at the end — these give the desired effect but throw some LaTeX errors, which I would like to avoid.

comment How to properly install and use a new font with LuaLaTeX?
Well the first part of the command which explicitly specifies OSFONTDIR was not required, so I thought I would a new simplified answer.

comment Linux Libertine small caps fail for some Unicode characters
Hmm, so there are! Although it seems they still do not have the small-caps glyphs I want. I guess the live-renderer is just faking it somehow...

Yes, the page here seems to indicate that there should be a separate small-caps font with an S suffix, but I could find no such file in any of the packages they offer for download.
