comment Can LaTeX be persuaded to produce text output?
@Aditya: Yes, that was my project. It wasn't that hard to do, just a bit tedious, and I didn't really get all that far with it -- but what I have is here: files.dpdx.net/tex/context/latex-compat. I hadn't thought about it in years; I'm amazed that someone remembers it.

comment Numbers in tables: align by decimal point *and* flush right?
Yup, I agree that his is the better answer -- no point in doing something by hand when there's a way to do it automatically. Thanks for the upvote, though!

comment Why can't I use \newfloat more than once?
As TH's comment sort of implicitly suggests: Could you include a bit more detail about what you're trying to do (and, ideally, a minimal complete example that illustrates the problem)?

comment Syntax Coloring in LaTeX
Elaborating a bit on Sharpie's comment -- the Listings v.1 package can't really change very much at all without breaking backwards compatibility, so there isn't much updating that can be done other than relatively minor bug-fixes. (I say this as the current maintainer, who is embarrassed to be so far behind on these "minor" bug-fixes, but unfortunately the fixes are far less minor than the bugs.) The original author has mentioned a v.2 of the Listings package, about a year ago, but I know of no more recent news.
