comment Justify “orphans” to the right margin
@JohnWickerson Totally true, I guess the reason I used 'orphan' was because I mostly dealt with singular words spilling into the next line.

I'm looking into it! It seems like it might do, but! I'd still like to see an answer to this question :)

@egreg I've made a new MWE that better shows how I'm working with the lyrics. I'm not sure that I can actually use the original lyrics, but at least the layout is more true to document I'm working with

You can use \item[$P_{xi}$] to set the label as the symbol - this makes sure the items align

You should use it from the command line on your system. cmd in Windows, but that's beyond the scope of these comments. On Super User you can get the help for that.

Then comes the problem of the memory limit of a 32bit system. Is pdftex 32bit or won't it apply?

Hello @co772 and welcome to TeX.sx. We'd like to keep answers separate from questions, so it would be better if you just asked a question and then answered your own question. Self-answers are perfectly admissible, and a well-written answer may earn you additional reputation. I would also recommend that you change your title to better reflect the contents - this will make it easier for others to find your "question." You can use the edit feature to make these changes.

comment In what ways can TeX be used beyond document production?
The whole idea of embracing the interactive possibilities of TeX is really exciting. I could imagine having a single TeX file and upon compiling, the user is asked about papersize, layout and language!

I don't know why you shouldn't be able to include TikZ figures, seems to work fine for me. A way to add missing features could be a script doing some conversion before feeding it to pandoc.

I'm amazed that the figure's title's line breaks match the reference image's.

Yes, but you must have set it up? There are few clues, but it seems like the font files are regenerated at every run. Maybe if we could check if where the fonts are and look for changes to see if they actually change.

Like, maybe you can't write to the disk, or not to all folders or something... Is there something special with your set up? Like user permissions?

@SergeyLukashev What I meant was removing the russian option to see if it made a difference.
