comment Draw a coat of arms in LaTeX
Presumably instead of LaTeX, you want to ask about either TikZ or asymptote or psTricks? Wouldn't it be easier to just do this in Adobe Illustrator?

comment Typesetting a descending italic z
@doncherry It looks like the Chris just loaded kpfonts with nofligatures and veryoldstyle options. The manual for kpfonts does not mention a descending z, yet mentions a toggle for a long tail on Q. So I expect that the z Chris is looking for is not in kpfonts.

comment Move QED symbol to the left, i.e. at the end of the sentence
And this also breaks the logic crafted in the amsthm package for placing the tombstone symbol when the last line of the proof is a displayed equation (the symbol gets placed on the next line). Of course, one can always re-write the proof so that the last line is prose...

comment Bad positioning of math accents for the beamer standard font
One thing I am a bit confused about: is beamer distributing with sansmathaccent? Or should it be installed separately?

@ashpool: it would really help if you provide at the very least a image or a link to an example of your desired output.

comment Matching question
I think the OP may mean to have two vertical columns of text with white space in between so that pupils can draw lines connecting the states to their capitals. In which case the answer would probably involve a properly formatted tabular (see here for example).

comment Using TeX in a report generator - Legal question
Rather than bundling and distributing some tex distribution, why not just specify to the potential users that s/he must also install a TeX distribution? Making a system call to an executable which may or may not be on a user's system is certainly not your problem; distributing a stripped down version of MikTeX is.

comment Is there a way to access the individual authors given by \author?
Have you tried something like using authblk? ctan.org/pkg/authblk (Just throwing out an idea, don't know if it would work or not.)

comment Creating a \precneq symbol
Hah, I did check the CSL, but I missed the mathabx section for negated binary relations. Thanks!

comment Creating a \precneq symbol
Thanks! You tracked down the unicode character for \precnsim (I edited the question to reflect that find). But that is not quite what I am looking for.

@CountZero Thanks! That was appreciated.

comment Creating a \precneq symbol
@CountZero: \npreceq cancels the whole symbol. I just want the canceling line to drop over the equals part similar to \precnsim or to \lneq (also from amssymb).

comment Creating a \precneq symbol
Arguably one should only use \prec to mean precedes and not equals to and \preceq for the possibility of equals to. In which case the symbol would not be necessary. But sometimes in the text it is nice to emphasize the fact that A precedes B and not equals to B.

It seems to be a problem with the package interacting with amsart document class. As @egreg said, with article class there is no problem. In fact with the amsart class you see the following warning when loading parskip: LaTeX Warning: Command \@starttoc has changed. Check if current package is valid.

comment How to make a document occupy more pages?
A comment on the motivation: like journal submissions, a lot of Universities have theses formatting guidelines (down to font size, margin size, interline spacing, and font choice).

comment Draw rounded cube
Off the top of my head, I don't think that's possible. At least I don't think the addition operator is overloaded for surfaces, but I may be wrong.

comment Draw rounded cube
Did it wait to let it finish or crash? (And what is the command you issued? try modifying the last parameter of contour3 to 20 to reduce quality and see if it runs.) It takes 22.9 seconds on a quad core Xeon @ 3.1 Ghz, I wouldn't rule out it taking more than 10 minutes on a single core 1.6G box....

"it is not working on my machine" what is the error? If you get something about increasing heap size, try reducing the resolution (drop from 50 to 10 to start). If you see what I have done above in the abstractroundedcube function, I've defined a function with extra parameters. You can easily do the same thing for surfaces.

@boy: once the software allows you to do so, you should post your resolution (the comment above) as an answer.
