@Pygmalion Well, this depends probably very much on the field. My experience in math was that the publishers do provide some style files which in the end you should use. But changing things from standard book.cls to the more specific ones was only a minor part of the work at the very end (taking some 2 days compared with 3 years of writing the rest). In the end, the publisher just wanted the final pdf from me which was directly printed (without any editorial works)
