comment Why are my en-dashes and em-dashes light gray?
@JoãoMendes good to know. Glad that print is OK at least. Here on Ubuntu everything looks fine to me.

comment How to change the styles (.sty) path in Lyx?
@alemol if your TeX installation can find them, then so can LyX. The only think you need to do in LyX after you make your TeX installation aware of the files is to do Tools > Reconfigure

comment I want to insert a file into my lyx document not import
@Sarahcartenz I see. Well at least now we know the problem. In this case the question is now about how to install a program locally without super user privileges. I don't have any words of wisdom on this. I'd suggest googling or posting this question in a different forum. But yes it is expected that without gnumeric the above will not work for you.

@Sarahcartenz yes, those are the steps. Do you have Gnumeric installed? Does it work for .xls files? Let's check that before trying .csv.

@Sarahcartenz I just tried with a csv and it worked for me. Not sure what the problem is.

I agree with George. Note that you might need to have Gnumeric installed (if you happen to be on Ubuntu, do sudo apt-get install gnumeric).

comment Lyx still inserting blank pages between tables in floats
Yes, please post a MWE. For more information, see wiki.lyx.org/FAQ/MinimalExample. Also, you state "None of the proposed solutions in related questions are working for me." It is helpful if you link to the solutions that you tried, and state what happened when you tried each of them. This way no one will duplicate time by proposing one of those solutions, and you will get an answer that has a better chance of working for you.

You might be interested in github.com/scottkosty/install-tl-ubuntu. Also, note that TeX Live 2015 should be released in a few weeks.

comment Lyx to Word Export issue
Be careful with exporting to HTML with ERT. I think ERT insets just export as empty when you export to HTML (which is to be expected, there's no way LyX could know what to export in these cases).

@JoãoMendes What happens if you zoom in? What happens if you view the PDF with SummatraPDF (a free PDF reader that seems to work better than Adobe Reader in some dimensions)? What happens if you print the page using the printer? I would not be surprised if this is a viewing issue.

As a workaround, does it work if you set the full path to invcum.dat?

comment LyX Thesis Document Class missing
It might be in your examples folder. Can you check there? There should be a folder called "thesis" and inside you should open up thesis.lyx

comment Getting minted and LyX work together
It is understandable. "templates", "examples", "doc" are all folders in the LyX user directory, so in some sense it is strange that "external_templates" is not.

comment Getting minted and LyX work together
external_templates is a file. It does not have an extension. That might be weird from a Windows perspective but for Unix it is normal. So it is just a text file but with no extension (note that the wiki link you linked to lists "external_templates" as a "file"). When doing this, be aware of this bug: lyx.org/trac/ticket/3983 . That is, if you use other external templates, copy them from the system external_templates file.

comment LyX View pdflatex does not display automatically in Acrobat Pro DC
My recommendation is to use SumatraPDF as your reader. It works well with LyX. The issue you bring up has been reported here: lyx.org/trac/ticket/9512. In that ticket it is suggested that someone report the bug to MikTeX.

comment Lyx - “Use class defaults” does nothing
I do not use those features, but my interpretation of is that "document default" is different from "class default". To me, "document default" means that when you start a new document, it will use your document defaults. "class defaults" to me means that LyX will use the defaults of the class (e.g. if you had previously specified two columns but normally the class defaults to single column, it will use that). As I said though, this is just my interpretation. If you think you found a bug, please report it at lyx.org/trac
