comment switching to pdf view with Adobe Acrobat DC
Also, you might want to give SumatraPDF a try. I've heard good things about it from Windows users.

comment How to Paste Equation from Maxima to Lyx
@user1930565 glad it is an improvement at least. But it is unfortunate the "Paste from LaTeX" does not work for you. Can you please make a bug for this at lyx.org/trac ? Also please post there whether you are able to import a .tex file (create a .tex file with a simple LaTeX code and see if you can successfully import it going to File > Import).

@user1930565 Did you try my suggestion in comment 2?

@user1930565 You can use backticks for code. FOr example, [\mathrm{fx ... this way it will not be formatted.

Can you also try Edit > Paste Special > Paste from LaTeX ? Note that this feature is relatively new, but it is in at least 2.1.3.

comment LyX footnotes do not create footnotes, only text in body
@JohnSearle can you please send me the files? Or preferably can you post them at lyx.org/trac/ticket/9653 ? This will help us solve the bug.

comment Finding duplicate words in Lyx
Good find. It is also in the User Guide. See Help > User Guide. There is a whole section on Advanced Find and this is one of the examples.

comment Is there a LyX way to add multiple cross-references to a document?
I am not aware of a way. If you do not find a solution, could you please post an enhancement request at lyx.org/trac ?

well actually it's not that silly of you. Ideally relative paths should work, but since LyX uses a temporary directory and does not know about the java file (because you're using ERT) it doesn't know to copy it to the temporary directory. An alternative might be to change the temporary directory to be the current directory (setting the path as . works on Ubuntu but I don't know about Windows).

Does passing the full path of hi.java help?

@Johannes_B Not that I know of. I'm not sure there will ever be an official statement since this is just my own opinion. A reasonable place for writing something might be at wiki.lyx.org/LyX/ReasonsToUseLyxInsteadOfLatex

As for advantages of LyX over MS Word, many of these will be shared advantages of LaTeX over Word, and for that there are already similar questions that have been answered, I believe.

Note that LyX is not really a TeX editor. One thing that many people think is an advantage of using LyX, but is really not, is the idea that you don't have to learn LaTeX. You should still learn LaTeX. As to true advantages, there are no absolute advantages, just personal preferences.

comment Author footnote with Elsevier class in lyx
Whenever you use TeX code, LyX has no idea what is going on. It inserts the code directly as you ask it to, but it has no way of knowing what that TeX code does and thus cannot adjust anything else that needs to be adjusted. Of course, TeX code is often necessary but I wanted to give you some intuition. When posting a question like this, please always put what happens. You put what does not happen (you don't get a little 1). But what do you get? Also, what do you get if you use LyX's Insert > Footnote?
