dalief: I'm using (Mac)TeXLive-2012, so I'd guess it should be pretty up-to-date. @lockstep That does indeed help, and I actually rediscovered that today. While trying to use bigfoot, I stumbled upon this answer which helped with the bigfoot-package as well as the floatrow-package.

I've updated with a MWE. I get two different errors based on whether or not I include your redefinition of newfloat.

Problem wasn't (only) `memoir` but `biblatex`.

It sure does. I guess my MWE wasn't good enough. The problem arises when using biblatex and floatrow.

That does indeed work and I might go with it. Of course I'd still love a solution to this problem in case anyone else needs a solution to this.

That might be it. Unfortunately I have already used a \selectlanguage{english} for the abstract and need to revert back to Danish. I could remove both and rename the abstract-title but that doesn't feel like the right way to do this.
