comment How can I define a mathematical function as a LaTeX macro?
Have you heard of Sweave? (Suggesting because 250 is a bit steep for some of us...) It would essentially provide the free alternative to this. Statistics and mathematics calculations embedded in LaTeX

Sorry to hear that @BandGap! Given that I'm on a WinXP install currently at work I can share your pain, but I can also sympathise with the devs for not supporting an EOL'd platform. I'll let you know if I have any luck getting it to work on my work computer.

comment Use of Chinese numers similar to \Roman and \Arabic
@Qrrbrbirlbel, I've marked as correct since the documenation says that should work (my chinese is passable), however I'm getting the error for out of date l3kernel l3packages. I'm going to update to texlive2012 soon and I'll update this accordingly.

Sorry @Qrrbrbirlbel, an MWE is a bit hard to extract at this point (working on a custom class), but I'm using fonts via \usepackage{xeCJK} \setCJKmainfont{DFKai-SB}. I hope this answers your question.

I know this is old, but either A) is there a replacement now (a year on), or B) could you mention some of those other projects? Cheers!

@deshmukh, that's an unfortunate response from them. If you ever get an answer please feel free to share, since I love vim and wish everyone could use it for LaTeX.

@deshmukh, fair enough, forgot about that when I was thinking about it. I'm sorry, this sort of problem is outside the scope of my abilities. You might ask on askubuntu.com

@deshmukh, okay, I was curious and tried testing this with some devangari text I found online. I've experienced two problems, under konsole I see only question marks, under gnome the glyphs are set at the wrong width. The first sounds like a font problem, the second I'm not sure how to resolve, but it seems like a gnome-terminal problem. I don't have devangari fonts installed other than what is already provided. My apologies.

comment Recreating a guilloche with TikZ
I know this is an old question, but for reference I thought I'd add this, since I stumbled across it. It might be possible to design a desirable guilloche with this subblue.com/projects/guilloche and then utilising their provided source code (extract the equations), plug parameters from your drawing to re-create the image with TikZ

@AymanElmasry, if you've found a solution to that problem that was an issue for you (maybe it's an issue for others), would you mind mentioning that in a reply to this comment? Cheers!

@MarcoDaniel, the two scripts I have shown here I have bound as follows: imap ;tab <ESC>:call TableCreator()<cr> and nmap <silent><F7> :call ToggleSpell()<CR>

comment beamer hyperlinks not correct
Cheers diabonas. It looks like a viewer issue, you're right. I've been testing it in other viewers. However, I'm having trouble with beamer's excellent navigation features. The navigate sections buttons don't behave exactly how I expect them to. I have three slides for three sections. They don't work on the first slide, on the second slide forward they work fine, moving 3 slides (2,5,8). Moving backwards, it goes from (8,7,4,1). Thus, I thought about using the "bookmarks"

@JosephWright, I use Okular. Yes, my MWE has different sections. I used a picture of my complete document but then cut out everything that was unnecessary for the MWE
