comment How to embed citations into footnotes?
Better practice would have been to put a temp hold on this question, ask Sled for clarifying details, and then answer his question (as lockstep has graciously done in detail) without closing it.

It should be noted that the justification for closing this question is bad. Sled asked an honest question for a real problem: how does one create footnotes in TeX? The only thing was, he didn't know that TeX has an automatic way of handling this, so he described it explicitly. To think that no one else would ever ask a similar beginner question is ridiculous. At most, this question should be marked as a duplicate and pointed toward an existing question describing how to make footnote citations.

Note that a search for "TeXstudio" in the user's home folder turns up nothing, which suggests that deleting the old TeXstudio application and replacing it with the new version will erase all user preferences. Hope that's not how it works...

I think Litun is actually asking how to update to a new version and preserve all the user preferences from the old on. He isn't looking to have two versions installed simultaneously. For what it's worth, I'm currently trying to update to 2.9.0 on OSX and I have the same question. I think it's definitely standard for OSX applications to handle updates themselves (i.e., not requiring the user to uninstall the old version manually), so if TeXstudio requires manual intervention then this should be spelled out somewhere (e.g., in a ReadMe file, or on the "Download" webpage).

comment Autocompletion of citation in TeXShop without BibDesk?
Thanks Adam. Can you suggest a place to look, or search terms to use? I'm looking for something I can get up and running quickly.

I haven't used it. TeXShop uses the native mac spell check, I'd rather use a more mature editor if possible since there tend to be fewer death-by-a-thousand-cuts bugs. The only major advantage of TeXstudio I've seen is code folding, which seems minor to me. Does TeXstudio automatically grab the correct .bib file for citation completion?

comment Why does TeXShop add a dot after autocomplete
Note that in OSX the command for moving to the next marker is found Source/Command Completion/Marks/Next Mark. The key binding is CTRL-COMMAND-F, and for the previous mark it's CTRL-COMMAND-G.

Nothing wrong with answering your own question, but note that this doesn't seem to work generally.

There appears to be a more authoritative answer here: tex.stackexchange.com/questions/116981/…

comment Going “back” when using hyperref
This question is also asked at SuperUser ("Back button of Adobe PDF Reader after clicking a hyperlink whose target is on the same document"). Many PDF viewers, including Adobe Reader, use [ALT]+[Left Arrow].
