Thank you Ulrike. Your solution does revert the behavior of lists. After reading the babel documentation, I think that it may be a bug, since it is not only a spacing issue, it is also a "paragraph definition" issue, I think. What I mean is: even if the spacing is different under french typography rules, I think that the paragraph after the itemize should be another paragraph and not a continuation of the one before. I will have to investigate a bit further regarding these typography rules.

Excellent! This is exactly what I was looking for! I did not like the identation so I redefined \thebibliography as well, as shown on this link: latex-community.org/forum/…

comment Why do some fonts used by siunitx and textcomp look rasterized?
I tried with texlive 2010 (MacTeX) and it looks fine. Here's the version of siunitx: {siunitx} {2010/07/15} {2.0n}

I think that would be an excellent question. I will leave Seamus the honor of asking it. It would be great to have a (draft) section in your document with this information.

Yes. But this way the citation key is not Lastname-year (I realize now that my question should clarify this)

I agree that author+year should be enough, but I prefer showing the citation key. Many publications do this and I think it is easier to search the references.
