comment Place a list in the middle of the page
varwdith is a good suggestion, but \begin{center} \begin{varwidth}{\linewidth} \begin{itemize} \item One \item Two and three \end{itemize} \end{varwidth} \end{center} seems to be a simpler way to use it.

comment mdframed does not split correctly between pages
@badroit You could add outerlinewidth=0.35cm,outerlinecolor=white, but this will also make environment narrow. I don't if that is acceptable.

comment Prevent wrapfigure from wrapping the next section
Welcome to Tex.SX! Unfortunately that does not entirely work, the wrapping stops but the section heading gets overridden by the figure. Perhaps you can improve the answer, and also make it into a complete compilable document, rather than just a code snippet.

You should probably be compiling with something like bibtex -min-crossrefs=5. However, your example above is missing the first citation, could you update the code?

No problem, it is just a suggestion of how to improve your question so that you get a relevant answer (which now seems to be the case) and so it will be most helpful to others visiting the site in future.

comment Metapost “odd” operator fails with negative value?
@egreg I don't find a description anywhere, the comment was just based on the behaviour. As far as I can see in the sources odd is ((x) & 1), which I would have expected to give correct answers for negative x

odd in metapost returns false for all negative integers.

In addition to David Carlisle's comment, you can use \showhyphens to demonstrate the known hyphenation points in a given word/phrase (the output is in the log file).
