comment How to make a list of unbreakable items?
@glaz666, I edited the code to take this into account. It's not a particularly elegant solution, and I haven't tested it, but I guess you could give it a try.

comment How do I ask beamer to exactly fill up a slide?
Yes, thanks for the help. I still think this answer is a bit far from being a complete solution; but at least it points to “a direction” of how to implement this. I'll award you the bounty as there is no other answer. Will try to work more on it myself and see if I can eventually produce something more robust, perhaps suitable for publishing as a package. Thanks!

comment How do I ask beamer to exactly fill up a slide?
See my updated gist, I think that items with subitems and equations or other environments still don't have the proper spacing.

I'm also working trying to turn this solution into something that could be individually selected as an option per slide.

This is looking very good! A problem I've found, though, is that the first use of an \item within an itemize won't be able to read any optional arguments, e.g. I can't write \item<+-> for overlays.

comment How to iterate over a comma separated list?
Nice! Although for key=value items I would mention \keyval_parse:NNn instead, as this is the actual function doing just the parsing (instead of the more high-level option/key handling).

comment How to create a squiggle arrow with some text on it in TikZ?
Why is the counter needed for the node name? I seem to be able to replace the node name with a fixed value and everything still works.
