comment cleveref + listings
The link shows version 0.19 2013-12-28. tlmgr info cleveref tells I run 0.19 2014-02-26 which I assume is even newer. Still, I ran latex several times, and it would not detect the listing as a listing. Had to go with solution 1 :(

I just figured out that the inkscape command you provided on my system only works with absolute paths to both the input and the output file.

yes, the output then is: LaTeX Error: Unknown graphics extension: .svg. [ \includesvg{test.svg}]

Can I provide any other information?

the line says "texpath" : "$PATH:/usr/texbin:/usr/local/bin:/opt/local/bin" which includes the path to the inkscape symlink mentioned above. Having set "display_log" : true, here is the log for {test} and here for {test.svg}

Thank you for answering. Unfortunately, this does not make things much different. With builder set to default it just says TraditionalBuilder: Invoking latexmk... done. followed by the same errors. When setting it to script there is no output at all in the ST3 console.

comment Upgrade MacTex using tlmgr
I still dont feel like I got the point. If tlmgr is the package manager for TeX Live, and its purpose is to upgrade packages, and if TeX Live is a TeX typesetting distribution consisting of a bunch of packages, why am I not supposed to use it to upgrade all of them, thus the distribution? It seemed like it actually did so, but the upgrade system seems to be buggy somehow.

So we are not supposed to use sudo tlmgr update --self --all anymore once there is a new distribution version out? I am not afraid of big downloads, but if there is a package manager available, I was actually happy to use it, just like using npm, rvm, pip, etc…

I went through this tutorial after the problem appeared, and the script did not really update a lot, so I figured that most of the packages were already the latest version due to the tlmgr update before.
