What is the easiest way to plot a function and its tangent lines at the turning points? Nice answer so far. I want to add that you could take a look at pgfplots. It is based on TikZ but offers many possibilities to plot great graphs. |

Still showing the file is missing after installing the package of MikTeX @UlrikeFischer I updated miktex-runtime-bin and miktex-bin today. Some of my tex-files cannot be compiled anymore; there are suddenly hundreds of error messages. Replacing miktex209-core.dll with an older version does not help. Are there any other files I have to replace? I am asking because I want to avoid a new installation of my miktex version. |

Odd result in pgfplots when scale and set layers is used together I fear you are right and this is a bug in pgfplots – but only a little bug in a wonderful package! Your workaround works perfectly – thanks for posting it! |

How to draw a dashed line with *-mark + error marks + a line in foreground in the same plot with pgfplots? Thank you so much for this answer! You have solved all my problems in a very easy way! Thanks again! |

Problem with external graphics and 3D pgfplots Thank you Christian and thank you @Luigi for solving my problem and giving a detailed answer! In future I will chose only three points to be on my hyperplane and the forth to be somewhere else. P.S.: Just a general remark: Thank you Christian for your wonderful TikZ and pgfplots! I could not work without them! Herzlichen Dank! |

Problem with external graphics and 3D pgfplots Thanks @Christian: I guess you get other coordinates because the size changed a bit after uploading. Yes, the figure is a part of a cone. I plotted one more graphics so that one can see that I read out the coordinates correctly (I multiply x,y by 10^9,z by 10^6). If I follow you advice and use the red dot, I get a good result! One can check this by using my first pic of my post and the coordinates (353,754.7,196)=>(46,517-393),(356,757,198)=>(254,517-94),(353,758.5,198)=>(121,517-0),(354.5,753.3,198)=> (73,517-95) instead of the original (356,753.3,196)=>(156,517-515). Well, it works! But why? |

Problem with external graphics and 3D pgfplots Thanks for the feedback. I tried to change with e.g. z post scale=2 etc. the axis scaling, but nothing works. The funny thing is: If I make a 3D plot just of my points, I get almost what I want. But I still cannot manage it for my desired plot. Do you or others can give a bit more help? |

Arrow with two colors with TikZ Thanks for this post! It is a nice try to solve my problem too, but if I change the coordinates of your darrow, I do not always get a nice result. Anyway, thanks for trying to give a solution! |

Arrow with two colors with TikZ That is indeed fantastic! Thank you first for adapting your solution! And thanks for the other style of double arrows (the .spaced in the 3rd line is not needed?)! They are very nice! I think/hope that a lot of other users will benefit from your solution! Thanks again so much! |

Arrow with two colors with TikZ Wow, thanks for defining this macro. Now your solution is very nice and easy to handle too! Thanks a lot! |

Arrow with two colors with TikZ That is also a nice solution, although the code was quite difficult to understand. I like it much that your arrows have a black margin at their beginning! But it is a bit complicated and time consuming that one has to type the coordinates each time for the black as for the yellow arrow. Anyway, thanks for this very good approach! |

Arrow with two colors with TikZ Very nice and even easy solution! Thank you sooo much! I am satisfied to 99% with this solution. I would be satisfied to 100% if the beginning of the arrow would have a black margin too (as in @Peter Grill approach). Do you know if this can be added in an easy way to your code? |
