comment Making an indexentry for '+' when '+' is the quote sign for makeindex
I tried this, but it did not work. I guess all + get removed.

comment Replacing tree-dvips, connect nodes in a tabular environment
Unfortunately texlive 2015 with xelatex adds too much space below the nodes h2, h3 and h7. texlive 2013 works though.

Yes, UG = universal grammar. This is a historical discussion of Pollard & Sag, 1994 with English and German as examples.

This is not mathematics, it is linguistics. Linguists do funny things ... =;-)

comment Copy and paste on iPad selects whole sentences after loading libertine
OK. It is a viewers problem. Then I am stuck since I am looking for a general solution for all (human) readers of these books. I thought it was font related since it works for some fonts.

comment Copy and paste on iPad selects whole sentences after loading libertine
OK. Thanks. I did not know this. Is there any hope? The question is a year old and I wonder whether something is done about this or can be done. I would even pay or donate to a developer if that would help. (with several hundred real bounties)

comment libertine/newtxmath: Spacing after italic f too small
I also noted a problem with "of T" independent of mathmode. "of" and "T" seem to be too close.

comment Placing figure inside itemize environment with text floating around it
Got it: placed the \tikzmark command at the first item, put the \tikz command after it and positioned the image accordingly. Thanks a lot!

comment Placing figure inside itemize environment with text floating around it
Cool! Thank you very much! I have \pausecommands after the items. This has the effect that I see the logo only after I uncovered the third item. I tried to put it into \visible<1->but this did not work.

The top boundary should be at the top boundary of the first itme line and the fiure should span the first three items. So the bottom of the figure may be at the bottom of item three.

comment Getting (automatic) space between lines so that labels fit in
Thanks! There are so many options to control the behaviour of these arrows. I did not know the up option. I could imagine an automatic solution that is suboptimal: one could incremt the up-value.

comment fixing or replacing tikzmark/pgfmark/subnode within forest
Just noticed that I might get away with using pdftext and producing a pdf that I then can include with includegramhpics.

comment fixing or replacing tikzmark/pgfmark/subnode within forest
I am using xetex. With xetex the arrows are either on top of the figure (above V). I will add the figure.

comment getting or copying texlive 2013 for Mac
Well, I have a pgf problem (xelatex) that was introduced in 2014. It is not fixed yet. It is related to the tixmark package and subnode command (I asked a question about it here and filed a bug report, but the bug is still there). tex.stackexchange.com/questions/229500/tikzmark-and-xelatex Maybe I just do not use subnode and position the arrows by hand ...

@LoopSpace I edited my question. \subnode seems to be broken in texlive 2015.

Does this work with Mac? Mactex is usually a huge package with the .pkg ending. It does the integration with the Mac preference pane.

comment Drawing condensed version of complex dependency diagrams
yes, I think that the structure that is needed for this is the tree given in the question. This tree contains the information from where to where the dependenc arrows have to be drawn. It does not contain information about linearization of the words though. Interestingly this information is contained in the second tree with the empty nodes. So it may be possible to draw the figure automatically from this. Anyway, for my purposes your answer is sufficient and it would be only make sense to invest further work if we would like to solve this problem for the DG community. Thanks for the solu

comment Removing space before dots produced by pinyin command
That would not work since it is automatically included in the call to pinyin in this glossing environment described in the other question.

OK. Thanks! After adding the phantom node the shifting worked again. This is what I was missing. @Sašo Živanović is probably right that the general problem cannot be solved by styles. So I mark this question answered.
