I'm a professor in Near Eastern Studies, specializing in assyriology (the study of all things Mesopotamian).

I teach Near Eastern culture: civilization, history, literature, and language (Classical Hebrew and Akkadian).

A former analyst/programmer (BMath, U. of Waterloo, 1984), I'm now getting involved in Digital Humanities as well.

According to an updated bug report received just now, this has been fixed as of version 4.09, which should become available shortly.

@AlexG--right, I think I get it. Also: I found it necessary to replace MD5 with something simpler, so have used simple file names, as XeTeX could not deal with that; but now with LuaTeX I can change this. And in floats, I have found that one has to ensure that they are not near page boundaries else one gets a 'not in outer para mode' fault. Might be worth mentioning in documenation.

Interim workaround: if the built-in keys user1..user6 haven't been used, replace the key in question with one of those. However, note that in the glossary file, the format is user1={whatever} whereas in the tex source, the commands are \glsuseri{key}. In other words, the suffixed numbers 1..6 must be replaced with lowercase Roman numberals, i, ii, etc.

I've been pondering this. Is this quite right? Seems to me that the counter is incremented on every call to \playSoundFromTo, even if it is the same sound file. Do we not want to restrict the \stepcounter somehow? @AlexG

Additional note: the last was a red herring; infinite loop happened again since. I determined that having \usepackage{libertine} was incompatible with later having \setmainfont or \setsansfontto Libertine fonts. This did not happen with XeTeX compiles.

I have attempted this trick with my large production file. @Alex Initally, lualatexmk went into a loop, but using Libertine OTF fonts rather than TTF solved that. I have checked the output, and so far, it seems to work. I will call this tentatively solved.

Fair enough, I expected that. Not a big deal ;) I will see how I get on with LuaTex, though the manual warns against using it in a production environment, for now. @AlexG (when I put this at the front, it seems to vanish)

Activated LuaTeXmk and I had to use `\texthebrew{}' for the labels. I get a <cr> before the Hebrew, but that may be a matter of tinkering. A greater concern is this new message: "Package polyglossia Warning: Hebrew is not supported with LuaTeX. (polyglossia) I will proceed with the compilation, but (polyglossia) the output is not guaranteed to be correct (polyglossia) and may look very wrong. on input line 6." I will try this on my real file soon and see what happens and report back. @AlexG

Thanks--found that to work around \mediabutton. Another thing I noticed was that use in floats is problematic. Putting a dummy commmand with an empty button label before it tends to work, if the float stays on the same page. Using the float package with [H] almost always works, unless the float is near the top of the page; in such a case, it seems that the package may read the wrong iteration of files during a make, because it sometimes dies with a complaint about not being an outer par anyway. No luck at all with RTL text, however :(

As far as I can see, \playSoundFromTo cannot be used in tabular enviroments. Is there a way to customize this so it will?
