comment Combined List of Figures and Tables?
@DavidCarlisle Ah, now I get what you are meaning with the numbering... Figures and Tables should be numbered in sequence. So, after the first picture "Figure 1.1" should come "Table 1.2" even if it's the first table. But I'd like to use both, table and figure environments, for semantical reasons.

@DavidCarlisle If I just use figure everywhere then the tables won't have "Table 2.1: [caption]" below them, but "Figure 2.1: [caption]".

comment Inconsolata missing after MiKTeX update
OK, thanks. As written in the edit to my last comment: \usepackage{zi4} makes it work again.

comment Inconsolata missing after MiKTeX update
@UlrikeFischer Interesting. So, this is a MiKTeX database error using a wrong file name? edit: Yeah, If I change \usepackage{inconsolata} (that always worked and is also on the Font Catalogue) to \usepackage{zi4}, it works again...

comment How to plot a surface from a set of data?
@PredragPunosevac I don't need to use pgfplots, but I'd like to. ;) Be it for learning or for fun or just because it generally looks better. ;)

comment How to plot a surface from a set of data?
@Jake It's experimental data that was given to me. I did not generate it. The first two columns are varied parameters and the last column is the measured value in a physical experiment.

comment Static analysis of LaTeX documents?
Well, a static C analyzer won't check stdio.h when one writes #include 'stdio.h', so a LaTeX analyzer would not check the external files of amsmath when \usepackage{amsmath} occurs. And of course, everything the tool should do is giving hints, it should not do automated corrections. But I agree that it's much harder for LaTeX than for a "regular" language. But I would not call it impossible. +1, but I'll wait with accepting for possible other answers.

comment How to use “LaTeX in Word”?
What about switching completly to LaTeX? If you already TeXify your math, then TeXifiyng your text, too, will be a piece of cake.
