Thank you kind sir! The red commands are slightly jarring, and the profile gave dark text on dark background in my TS, but that was easy to fix.

Is this not something that can be fixed? It presents quite a big usability hurdle for the whole package which is otherwise excellent. As an aside, I have no known issues when using \gls inside captions.

Demo option isn't needed. I just found that keeping the comment after the first image was causing it to not overflow. mbox works. Accepted. Thank you very much

demo option to what? IEEEtran? Regardless, the mbox solution has not worked for me when substituted into my MWE above.

I also tried scaling the width instead of the height, but the result is the same.

Height of the image doesn't particularly matter, since even a 1px png will demonstrate the problem. But FYI the image is approx 3:2 width:height. \centering did not solve the problem.
