comment Typeset a biblatex bibliography in a cv4tw CV
Your \xpublist leads with too much vertical space as compared to \story and my \publist, but that's easily fixed by adding something like \vspace*{-4ex} to the beginning of the command definition.

comment How to write (La)TeX (with parentheses) [or any other TeX-related logo]
It seems almost all the logo macros have been removed in recent versions of dtklogos. I am using 2014/11/15 v2.2 and almost every logo in this answer's sample document fails with an "Undefined control sequence" error.

comment Make Emacs ignore “mismatched” \index parentheses
On further testing, it seems the only problem is that putting this code in my Emacs init file does not suppress the "mismatched parentheses" minibuffer warning when typing the final brace of something like \index{foo|(}. I had mistakenly assumed that this meant the code had no effect at all. However, I see now that it does restore proper brace matching for subsequently typed braces (as in the \somecommand example of my original question).

This seems to have no effect on the problem for me.

comment Indexing material that appears inside \afterpage
This works, except that \string gobbles spaces after the command it escapes. So \index{Foo Bar@\foo \bar} produces a different index entry than \index{Foo Bar@\string\foo \string\bar}. Can your answer be adapted to address this?

They're "books" in the usual sense of the word. In Biblatex parlance, yes, you should use @proceedings for them. Regardless, what I said about books (in either sense of the word) having ISSNs is still valid.
