When I change the \pdfpkresolution of the MWE you provided I can't see a change on the screen, even if zooming in. Is the bitmap fonts just used for printing?

Thanks for your answer, but still, having read about \pdfpkresolution, I don't really get what the command does. It seems like I also have to specify that the pdf should be output with bitmap (PK?) fonts?
