comment How to emphasize or highlight single words in comments in listings?
Your comment did only restate what I know already. I am aware of the mathescape alternative (and the other escaping mechanisms of listings), but as I wrote in the question I would prefer to not change the included source code, hence these options are NO alternatives. That listings understands the comments is correct and indeed part of the problem in this case...

comment Beamer: set mode mid-presentation
Just a note: setting the macro apparently does only work after \begin{document} (please don't ask why I need to change it within the header but after the document class :)

comment Listings package: How to highlight math operators?
This works quite fine with a low number of characters but fails for whole words regarding spacing. See tex.stackexchange.com/questions/277486

comment listings 'escapeinside'-option is not working for me
It would make sense! Some formatting rules (e.g., font size) do apply to escaped latex code within listings. Splitting up into two inline listings with some normal text in between does not take that into account (I have a real-world example at hand currently :/)

comment Using menukeys within lstlisting
it produces what @HarishKumar has posted. I have tried to explain better what my problem is. Maybe the question can be simplified to: "How wide is a character in a lstlisting listing?" :)

comment How can I prevent pinlabel/postscript errors?
Deleting everything in front of %!PS-Adobe- also helped me to open an EPS in Inkscape, thanks.

comment Vertically centering in Latex Beamer slightly too much up
That improves the situation but moves the line a bit too much down, i.e. barely below the center.

comment How to type multiple choice questions with more than one correct choice
MC stands for multiple choice ;) yes, the answer is dated, however, it is still valid and has helped me (apart from the tiny option problem).

with the switch to tasks.sty (I guess), the third solution does no longer work. One has to load the package with \usepackage[load-tasks]{exsheets} then this works fine again AFAICT @cgnieder btw please reconsider your MC-hatred ;)

comment Coloring digits with the listings package
could this somehow be made so that also keywords etc. are spared from being replaced? This apparently is not so in this version.

comment Listings package: How can I format all numbers?
All replacements that include the comma should have 2 instead of 1 at the end. this defines the number of output characters and is important for the complicated spacing of listings.

comment Exclude everything from pdf document except images
this seems to have problems with the document class memoir, or at least i think so: with my (memoir-based) thesis only the bottom half of the images are printed on the very top and one per page; some images are printed two times.

the alternative approach fails when the (yet uncommon) \includesvg is used (well, actually using the *-figures.tex file afterwards fails)

comment How to link images to their entry in list of figures?
the MWE of this question has at least the second problem itself: zoom in on the caption so that the lof entry is not viewable; click the link in the caption; note that the new view does not show the whole lof entry because the top of the view pane is positioned too low (tested with acrobat 9, evince, okular, qpdfview).

(damn too slow.) In the MWE it seems to be better, but the anchor is too low (it should be above the entry/line but is vertically in the middle of the text).

comment How to link images to their entry in list of figures?
The location of the target seems to be suboptimal: at least with memoir the pdf viewers jump to the page number at the end of the LOF entry instead of the beginning of the entry (i.e. figure number). Still, this answer is a huge improvement for me, thanks everyone involved.

comment \autoref does not capitalize initial character in sentence when referencing label in listings environment
As of fall 2013 the current hyperref version is from 2012-11-06 (6.83m) and does not feature an \Autoref AFAICS. Where did he say to provide one in the future or did I understand you wrong?

comment How to detect if there is one or multiple pages in a glossaries entry's number list?
yes, that works, thank you. (I had no idea about ifmulti yet, but a simple if-then-if-then-else works (with a bit of redundancy) too). I would rather see a more elegant solution, but so far this is definitely the best answer ;)

this fails of course for number ranges (those include \delimR). i had the idea to count the characters instead (with \StrLen), but i can't get that to work at all
