comment How to place two figures next to each other and centered
part of the problem might be how you generate the graphs - I would make sure the fonts & axes lengths are the same size in both to begin with ( see legend seems to push the 2nd graph downwards - perhaps relocate it)

comment Quickly writing LaTeX documents
the author of tex4ht, eitan gurari (sadly passed in 2009) was interested in latex for blind people - don't know though whether it ever came to anything ...

comment How to set up automatic build in Emacs
perhaps not quite automatic - but have a look at auctex gnu.org/software/auctex and how it can simplify the workflow - I use it with okular as a pdf viewer which automatically refreshes every time I recompile

comment Defining the minimal amount of space around an operator
you can tweak some of the default spaces, e.g. \setlength{\medmuskip}{0.5mu} \setlength{\thinmuskip}{1mu} \setlength{\thickmuskip}{2mu} or something like \thickmuskip=4.4mu plus 3mu minus 1mu \medmuskip=3.6mu plus 2mu minus 3mu - found this somewhere when trying to do something similar, but can't remember where

comment booktabs with multicol: horizontal rules too short
thank you VERY much - can't believe I didn't spot this; normally I'd expect to get an error about too few columns on compilation in this scenario

comment How to reduce white space above/around R-Plot in LaTeX-Beamer document
I am not familiar with spatstat -but some R packages have their own settings with redefine par() commands you've set & you might be encountering a case of that

comment How to reduce white space above/around R-Plot in LaTeX-Beamer document
this might be more of an R than LaTeX question ... R allows you to set margins via the par option - the defaults are quite large - e.g. par(mar=c(0.1,0.1,0.1,0.1) )
