@Bernard --- if the OP is using a modern installation the figures should be converted to pdf on the fly by pdflatex.

What TeX distribution are you using? Whichever it is, you should delete \usepackage{epsfig}.

Could be caused by spaces in the postscript code ... can you make the eps file available for download and add a link to your question?
