comment strange caption numbers in cross-references and list-of-figures
@AxelSommerfeldt My question was aiming towards the group. I was familiar with \captionabove but it did not work out as I hoped, probably because I did not know the term 'signature'. Thanks for your explanation nevertheless, it still gave me some new insights.

Feels less messy than manipulating the counter, thanks for solving my problem! I don't understand why it works though... :D

@Johannes_B Addressing the KOMA-settings sounds like the logical consequence. But it does affect the captions of the subfigures as well and these should remain at the bottom. I would omit the very first caption completely but it labels the subfigures as "sampling locations" and I need to refer to that later on.

@Johannes_B As explained I need a single caption on top of the pictures while all the other ones should remain at the bottom.

I suspected the placement of the very first caption myself. As I explained; in this case it does not make sense to put it somewhere else. Putting it at the end of the first part of the figure will have it appearing in between the subfigures (looking odd). At the end of the continued float it will be on the next page after all the subfigures. That is even more messy because it explains the appearance of the subfigures. That is why I tried to redefine its position. But since it is KOMA-style to essentially put the caption where you put the call for it, it had no effect.

comment How to manipulate headsep only on text pages
I revisited the question today because it was not marked as answered. Your answer fixed the problem I described - thanks for that! I guess I waited for another solution, that changed the issue for all pages at once since I had to fix about 200 pages like that...

That fix is really a relief since my deadline is coming closer. I am still interested in a 'final' solution though.

@moeve The \fullcite-problem appears only when using the first solution. The second one looks good. :)

@moeve There is a tiny problem remaining... when I use ´\fullcite´ or ´\footfullcite´ to display the full bibliographic information of a book, then both names (in the label and in the actual entry) are in uppercase letters. How do I only change the labeling part?

I definitely see what you mean, but I am bound by their citation guidelines. Thanks a lot for helping me out so patiently!

the baselineskip fitted nicely. Is it ok to kill the hanging indentation with \setlength{\bibhang}{0pt}?
