comment Is it possible in Latex to convert all numbers between imperial and metric?
The precision problem @egreg mentions exists also in an even worse form: IIRC, there was once a book titled "How to make a million dollars out of nothing" or the like, and someone translated that to another language and currency - using a currency conversion ratio with five digit precision! :)

comment How to display sine squared more compactly
That raises the question, what to do if \left... \right is needed for a complicated argument? If we are lucky, it is a fraction and again paraentheses can be dropped.

comment Blur the whole document and add a demo watermark on each page
After contemplating this, maybe something totally different could be adequate (but I have no idea how to accomplish this): Replace all text in the output - except the part that shall remain readable - with blind text ("lorem ipsum") in such a manner that tha paragraph shape is not affected; a good implementation of such a method might also use "blind math" for display formulas and "blind images" for illustrations ...

comment How to add random lines over text as a watermark and anti-OCR?
Keep in mind: The better OCR development, the less human-readable is any anti-OCR text (I myself sometimes fail todays captchas!). For any text of nontrivial length, human reading becomes intolerably strenuous (not to mention the visually impaired)

comment How should I write $x^*^2$
Next to that, the third one represents the logical structure of the expression and therefore does exactly what DEK considered best for such cases (read the discussion about ${a^b}^c$ vs. $a^{b^c}$ in the TeXbook)

So the icon is not supposed to occur in the section heading itself (i.e. on page 3, in the example)?

comment PDFs want to scale down
@UlrikeFischer I think the option that is selected in the print dialog is simple the one you used last. I'd be more interested in a feature that would cause no scaling even if I selct "scale to paper" because the driver should notice that there is sufficient margin. This may hoever be a dream ...

comment PDFs want to scale down
@egreg Oh, interesting. So it seems it is possible to put the information that shrinking is a bad idea somewhere. Admittedly, I just tried the same with a pdf export (from Word 2010 under Windows 2008) and that showed the same 94% problem. Can you somehow upload an A4 pdf that does not wnat to shrink so that I can test it on my system?

My hopes were that one of those PDF boxes (MediaBox, CropBox, Bleedbox, TrimBox, ArtBox, WhateverBox) just might need a kick in their butt.

comment Redefining Infinity in LaTeX
If you want to be understood by other mathematicians, use established symbols. Or do you also write ":" instead of "2" because the colon better represents two-hood? --That beng said, you might add a small white blob on top of the standard $\infty$ symbol (assuming you only write on white background)
