comment When is a word processor better than LaTeX?
for very short documents, where typography is less important. for me, the rule is <1 page. the latex overhead in the .tex file itself, plus the overhead in the file system with multiple created files, make latex painful compared to a word processor.

comment fancyvrb: multiple actives
agreed. I think fancyvrb is better for showing interactions of a user with a shell and programs, with some input and output, etc., that need to come in different typeset.

comment Caching includegraphics{} image files for speed
pdftex manual: ctan.tug.org/tex-archive/systems/pdftex/manual/pdftex-l.pdf . fast pdf embedding: tex.stackexchange.com/questions/39929/… . Steven = yes, I want caching between runs. Mike = if I scale down, I may inadvertently get image degradation due to non-alignment. (I could take out \textwidth sizing, and then use ImageMagick convert...)

comment charter font with mathastext and upright txgreeks
suggestion: instead of hoping l-users like me to read the doc (they are expecting orthogonality), we should add some checks and error messages to guard against obvious misuse. bernard---can you please post your comment as an answer, for me to mark it closed and answered?

comment weird interpretation of vertical spacing macros in contents of lrbox / minipage / colorbox
thanks. given cleverness of environments, I guess this is always trial and error, without clear and easy rules...

comment is there a minimal converter of well-defined latex to xhtml?
strange...works for me all the time. it's also evolving quickly, as we use it for our specific purposes. docs are behind...and probably a real release.../iaw
