comment Latex \tracing commands list?
I just learned there is also \tracefloats; it's .sty file has to be manually generated, however, as described in How to influence the position of float environments like figure and table in LaTeX? #39020

comment Problems in expansion of a setcounter macro (Use of \csname doesn't match its definition)?
Thanks @ChristianHupfer - that line is supposed to be \protected@edef\theparent#1{\the#1}, but it was giving me problems like that, so I tried to \expandafter-it; and I thought it was solved, seeing the error show on \setcounter line... will need to take a look again. Cheers!

comment Split the reference counter for any numbered item (like with subequations)
Thanks for that @egreg - I tried making a generic "subanything" macro and posted it below; but I cannot get rid of a csname definition error, so it looks like I'll be using your solution. Cheers!

comment Artifical bold of a font (as vector) by a thicker stroke in Latex?
Thanks for the comment, @Manuel - indeed, the looking "worse in a pdf viewer" part is what makes me see the bitmap approach as problematic; though, as I haven't yet seen an example of how this is done in code with the "bitmap" approach either, I'd welcome an answer or a link for that, too... cheers!

comment Difference between fixed-width and proportional typewriter fonts in listings?
I just experimented with basewidth=0.51em, option of {lstlisting} - that seems to fix the behavior of cmtt -- but then messes up the behavior of pcr (in escaped vs unescaped in columns=fixed)! So that's not the answer...

comment How to add a forced line break inside a table cell
I think the explanation is wrong - I just tried {flushleft} in a l column, and it fails; I think the reason why this example works is because it has p{2in} column type, which sets the width in advance..

You have to specify width in advance, though...
