I'm a LATEX fan and package author. Professionally I'm a electronic engineer. I really like pdflatex and start to dislike the DVI mode. I'm using Linux and the vanilla TeXLive.

Originally I started to use LaTeX for my final year project. I quickly wanted to learn how to program my own macros. Because I wanted some better support for my needs I started to write my own packages for my PhD thesis, like svn-multi, standalone and tikz-timing, but also several more.

All my LaTeX packages and support scripts can be found at https://bitbucket.org/martin_scharrer/ (Mercurial repositories) and on CTAN (latest official release) as well as CTANHG (archive of official releases). Feel free to report any bug or feature request using the ticket system there.

I'm a joined member of Dante and TUG, the German and International TeX user groups.

comment Aligning figures in a table
If you only get a small unwanted space, try to add a % directly after { and } when they are at the end of a line, like \subfloat[Fourth]{. Otherwise the line break there is taken as a space. This is explained further in What is the use of percent signs (%) at the end of lines?. Not sure if this happens here, because I don't know the inner context of \subfloat.

It would be good if you add an image of the result so that people can see it directly.

comment How to include chapters in LaTeX?
Please try to always include compilable, but minimal examples (i.e. here is just the \documentclas{...} missing) and the error messages you get (look in the .log file for lines starting with !). This helps the answers to identify the issue.

comment Align top of images using subcaption
Reopened from "Duplicate of" state on OPs request. While the linked duplicate technically solves the issue, I agree with the OP that an answer should address subfigure directly, as beginners don't see the connection to minipage directly.

comment Understanding minipages - aligning at top
I would suggest the environment version of \adjustbox here, e.g. \begin{adjustbox}{..}. Note that the first minipage can also be added by adjustbox keys.
