TeX is for me like Unix: there is always something new to explore. I am especially curious to learn more about TeX to spice up my LaTeX code and write some domain-specific macros. I am happy to share my knowledge from writing scientific documents in computer science. These days I'm using LaTeX mostly for reports, in combinations with R, for serial letters, and for creating (PDF) forms.

The current version of OCaml is 4.02.1. Is there a particular reason why you are using 3.11.2?

comment Formatting table using booktabs
Sorry, Safari hadn't shown me the horizontal scroll bar and I had missed the header for the last column in the code.

Amazing how compact the code is. I would suggest to left-align header of the first column, though.

Where is \thead defined? I solves a problem that I commonly have with table headers. BTW: code and image don't seem to fit together for the last column.

comment I want to take a CSV file, process the data, and generate a report file, where can I go to learn how to do this?
Generating the report from the CSV file could require advanced LaTeX techniques. Consider an alternative approach: generate a LaTeX file using some programming language that you already know. This might be not as satisfying but could be a lot quicker.

comment Are postscript printers necessary for printing large pdfs compiled from LaTeX files?
Are you referring to TeX specials that emit PS that ends up in a PDF? Or are you referring to genuine PDF operators? In any case, this is not a matter of document length.

comment Determine last day of given month
The number of days in each month is independent of the year except for February which depends on the year being a leap year or not. Wouldn't it be easier to just encode the leap year algorithm and use an if-cascade? if year is not divisible by 4 then common year else if year is not divisible by 100 then leap year else if year is divisible by 400 then leap year else common year
